Preliminary Oral Exam

The oral exam is based on the written exam. The committee is usually the same as for the written exam. If there are changes, your advisor must notify the Graduate School who must approve the changes. The oral preliminary exam lasts approximately two hours. Faculty are generally willing to discuss the results of your written exam with you prior to the oral; talking with them is a good way to prepare for the oral.

The oral exam should be scheduled no sooner than three weeks after the completion of your last written prelim.
